Brief info

Arnold Sebutinde's remarkable journey from adversity to artistic success is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Born on March 4th, 1984, in Kampala, Uganda, Arnold's life took unexpected turns, leading him through tumultuous experiences that ultimately shaped his resilience and creativity.

At the age of 15, Arnold relocated with his mother to Bahrain, and later to London in 2001, where he encountered a challenging environment marked by gangs and violence. Despite his efforts to fit in, he found himself ensnared in a cycle of turmoil that culminated in a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for conspiracy to rob in February 2007.

It was during his incarceration that Arnold underwent a profound transformation. Amidst the confines of prison walls, he embarked on a journey of self-discovery and redemption. Wrestling with anger and despair, he made a conscious decision to channel his energies into a positive outlet: drawing.

Despite never having explored his artistic talents extensively before, Arnold immersed himself in the craft, honing his skills with dedication and perseverance. His unique technique, which he refers to as 'Painting with graphite,' began to flourish, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of his circumstances.

Upon his release in September 2009, Arnold secured a loan from The Prince's Trust enterprise course and wasted no time in pursuing his newfound passion. He established Spontaneous Portraits, a platform showcasing his breathtaking artwork, which includes striking portraits of humans, pets, wildlife, and heritage buildings.

With a compelling vision to offer support to budding artists, Spontaneous Portraits has garnered online and mainstream media recognition. Through his innovative approach, incorporating videos alongside his artwork, Arnold has captivated audiences worldwide, particularly within the equestrian community.

Reflecting on his journey, Arnold shares, "Prison could have either made or broken me. But I chose to let it make me. It was a pivotal moment where I realised the power of resilience and creativity in overcoming adversity."

Today, Arnold Sebutinde stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, exemplifying the transformative power of art and determination. His story serves as a testament to the human spirit's capacity to rise above challenges and turn adversity into triumph.
